MEGASUS
Looking to record a song for Guitar Hero II, Megasus were formed in 2006 by Harmonix (the creators of the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises) employees and local musicians Jason Kendall (Amazing Royal Crowns), Dare Matheson (Made in Mexico), Ryan Lesser (Laurels), and Paul Lyons (Scared Stiffs).
In the spirit of Buzzov-en, Eyehategod, and Burning Witch, Megasus make massively detuned, shuddering sludge metal that crushes the listener with a stampede of blown-out fuzz and thunderous drums.
The band’s first singles appeared in video games, with “Red Lottery” appearing in Guitar Hero II and “Megasus” appearing in Rock Band. Shortly afterwards, Matheson would be replaced on the drums by fellow Harmonix employee and Lightning Bolt bassist Brian Gibson.
In 2009 the band released the 7” single Seven Inches of Sorcery. The same year, their full-length debut, Megasus, saw a limited vinyl release before it was put out on CD by 20 Buck Spin.
